About
I am a creative photographer living in West Newbury, Massachusetts. My photographs have been displayed in dozens of art shows in Newburyport, Amesbury, and Danvers. Some have won awards, which is nice — but the main thing is to share the pictures. I am a Member Artist of the Newburyport Art Association and the regional NAA Photography Interest Group (PhIG), and have recently been invited to join the PhIG Steering Committee.
Photography is a way for me to have an active conversation with life, and the pictures are a pathway to remember some of the people, places, and moments that I have encountered. When I share some of these photographs, I hope they can make people feel something…pause, appreciate, and live in the moment. For me, the pictures have an emotional and contemplative impact, speak to the human condition, tell a story, and hold on to a glimpse of fleeting beauty. I am aware of how ephemeral our experiences are, and ultimately our lives, and I feel compelled to capture and celebrate unique moments before they are buried by layers of time. I try to make images that are distinct in some way from the vast sea of photographs all around us. Making art enhances my life, and I hope that some of these photographs will outlast me and connect with people when the generational wheel has turned and I am gone.
The photographs are almost all spontaneous and unplanned. The images range from close-ups to wide shots and from vibrant colors to classic black-and-white. The pictures are of people; townscapes and cityscapes; landscapes; the natural world; and abstract or curiously ambiguous scenes. Many of the pictures are of my home in New England and the greater Newburyport region, but also from other parts of the United States, as well as countries like Canada, France, England, Italy, Portugal, Japan, and a growing list of others. Fleeting moments transform into art.
