About

Geordie lives in West Newbury, Massachusetts. Since 2023, Geordie’s photographs have been displayed in dozens of art shows in Newburyport, Amesbury, and Danvers, winning a number of awards. He is a Member Artist of the Newburyport Arts Association and the NAA Photography Interest Group.

Geordie’s photography “defies style or genre” according to fellow photographers and members of the public, and has been described as “magical,” “surprising,” “stunning,” “layered,” “humorous,” and “rewards the longer look.” The images range from nature to streetscapes to people, close-ups and wide shots, photojournalistic visual storytelling and fine art photography, vibrant color and classic black-and-white. The compositions are eclectic and usually unplanned and spontaneous. Many of the pictures are of the greater Newburyport region, but also from Boston, New York, Alabama, France, England, Italy, Newfoundland, Japan, Portugal, and other places.

Why photography? Ultimately it is a mystery. Humans are visual creatures, and, even in a world awash in photos, a unique picture can evoke an emotional response and can help people pause, live in the moment, and appreciate the world. Regularly creating such pictures can be a real passion. A website is one avenue, and art shows are another; there is also great satisfaction in making framed prints of a unique image — a tangible, durable object with substance, weight, and beauty.
