About
Geordie Vining is a creative photographer who lives in West Newbury, Massachusetts. His photographs have been displayed in dozens of art shows in Newburyport, Amesbury, and Danvers, winning a number of awards. He is a Member Artist of the Newburyport Art Association and the regional NAA Photography Interest Group.
Photography, for Geordie, is a conversation with life. He is focused on “Fleeting Moments” — spontaneous pictures of both the everyday and the extraordinary world, in multiple styles, that attempt to capture some emotional resonance, some compelling stories, and glimpses of beauty.
The world can be a chaotic and difficult place; and much of people’s experience is a stream of mostly mundane moments…but, within that flow, there are many spontaneous instants that are beautiful, interesting, unique, moving, and deserve to be remembered. Geordie’s candid pictures try to catch some of these moments before they are buried, and then share them with others.
The compositions are eclectic and almost always natural and unplanned. The images range from close-ups to wide shots and from vibrant colors to classic black-and-white. The pictures are of people and the human condition; townscapes and cityscapes that remind us of the unique environments we live within; landscapes; the natural world; and abstract or curiously ambiguous scenes. Many of the pictures are of Geordie’s home in New England and the greater Newburyport region, but also from other parts of the United States, as well as countries like Canada, France, England, Italy, Portugal, Japan, and a growing list of others. The world is awash in photos – but a unique picture can cause a viewer to pause, appreciate, and live in the moment. Fleeting moments transform into art.
